Description
Brian Copeland returns to his San Leandro and Hayward roots with a powerful evening of theater and storytelling from one of the Bay Area’s most acclaimed performers. In his groundbreaking one-man play, Not a Genuine Black Man–the longest-running solo show in Bay Area theatrical history– Copeland tells the moving, often funny, and deeply personal story of growing up as one of the only African American children in 1970s San Leandro. The show has earned national acclaim, inspired a bestselling book used in schools across the country, and is now being developed for television by Academy Award–nominated director Rob Reiner. Copeland is the writer and performer of seven critically acclaimed, award-winning shows, and has appeared in films including The Bucket List and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Following the performance at DMT, he’ll host a book signing in the lobby, featuring several of his works–including a sneak peek at his new 2025 release. Books will be available for additional purchase.
