Curious about AI and impact on our society? Come and listen to Scott Mauvais, the former Senior Director of AI and Global Partnerships of Microsoft at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts on April 14 at 7:00 p.m. This is part of the Castro Valley Arts Foundation’s Speaker Series.
Scott will cover basics like AI 101, bias in data and how to address it, potential impacts of AI on the labor market, good examples of AI, and who gets to decide how AI is used. Highlights will discuss the unintended consequences of introducing well-meaning changes to technical and societal systems. His expertise is centered on AI for good, sustainability, social entrepreneurship and accessibility.
Scott's tenure spanned roles in consulting, corporate innovation, sales, smart cities, and philanthropy. Prior to being AI Director, he was the Director of Microsoft Cities where he worked with city leaders to apply the global resources and expertise of Microsoft to foster the civic tech ecosystem and create opportunities for economic growth. Before that, Scott was the Director of the Microsoft Technology Center, an innovation lab where Microsoft’s top architects worked on AI solutions.
Mr. Mauvais has been a fixture in the San Francisco tech ecosystem for over 30 years. He brings that viewpoint and experience to his speaking engagements and offers new insight. Scott serves on the national boards of Upwardly Global, the Urban Age Institute and co-owns The Well, an online community.
