About Us
The Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) is a California Special District committed to protecting public health and the environment. Serving over 64,000 residents and 580 businesses, CVSan is responsible for maintaining the community’s sanitary sewer system, managing recycling and solid waste programs, and overseeing a refuse collection franchise. CVSan also holds a 25% interest in a regional wastewater treatment facility and plays an active role in local and state environmental partnerships. Established in 1939, CVSan continues to lead with innovation, sustainability, and dedication to the Castro Valley community.
